Rooted in Purpose
Coffee Terra wasn’t born from a business plan—it was born from a shared commitment to a community.
Our founders, Crista and Angi, met in the dust of a construction site on Finca Catalán in San Martin Jilotepeque. Crista was supervising the opening of a temporary school for the children of migrant coffee pickers, and Angi, whose family owns the farm, was the heart on the ground.
At the time, the school was a simple but vital necessity. Taking children into the fields during the harvest poses significant challenges, so the school provided a safe, structured environment where they could learn and be nourished while their parents worked. Seeing the impact on these families, Angi and her husband eventually made the decision to keep the school open year-round, funding every expense themselves.
The Connection
Working side-by-side to build that school, we realized we shared more than just a project; we shared a “why.” Angi, born and raised in Austria, with a deep passion for yoga and mindfulness, and Crista, a travel enthusiast dedicated to showcasing the soul of Guatemala, saw a way to merge their worlds.
We wanted to create a space that didn’t just offer a place to stay, but a place to be. We realized that true wellness isn’t possible if the community around you isn’t also thriving.
Our Mission
Coffee Terra is the evolution of that shared history. Our purpose is two-fold:
- For You: To provide a serene escape where you can reconnect with yourself through yoga, meditation, and the quiet beauty of the coffee forest.
- For the Community: To ensure the farm school continues to flourish. A percentage of every stay—whether you join a Curated Program or visit us Solo—goes directly to the school's daily operations.
Today, the school remains a permanent pillar of Finca Catalan and Coffee Terra, providing a completely free education for the children of our workers. When you stay with us, your journey toward inner peace directly supports the future of the children of San Martin Jilotepeque.
“We met through the work of giving back. We created Coffee Terra to make sure that work never stops.” — Crista & Angi
